Say It Again 02:57
Ginger tea Some stretching Stay off the screen A bike ride maybe If I find the energy Stay away from me Drink it slowly, rinse, repeat It's only so If I make it so So I won't make it so Say it say it over until I believe it "Only so if I make it so" I know what the things are That will make me light Will make me kick Off the covers in the morning They're just out of reach For the time being for a couple weeks The future can Be different And even the past can change If you wanna make it so I wait, patiently I'll make another cup of lemon ginger tea
2.
A Good Sleep 02:21
Surprise rain I'm on the rocks again I let my coffee go cold The ambient hiss Proof that I exist As the water drips down off the shingles I didn't deserve a good sleep But I'm out cold anyway I didn't deserve a good sleep But we can call it self care Refresh the page Then back to voicing leading games And there goes the day When you take walk Do you make a loop Or double back and retrace? Is there a difference either way?
3.
In the nick of time The rain was a surprise Just when it couldn't get more dry But a drop won't tide you over Jupiter aligned 800 years since the last time We stayed up past midnight But hardly caught a glimpse through the clouds I cannot live waiting for the next one The dread and curiosity When you say "can I ask you something?" I was sure you'd had enough of me But it was just about your sweater You're farther than you sound Like voices skipping over water A microphone makes the ocean smaller A murmur from across the pond I cannot keep treading in the sound I need a wave to throw me down I am sick of holding out for a tipping point They don't exist It's just treading 'til we drown In the nick of time
4.
I know it feels like we're the only ones for miles But the sound of the ocean is just the I-95 I know the going's rough All the bushwhacking and stuff But hear me out When we double back That head wind will turn to a tailwind and we'll fly home I know it seems like if we got turned around and died out here They won't stumble Across out bodies for years But it's worth it for the flowers And the way the sunlight splits the kissing trees

about

The songs on Double Back drop the listener in mid-conversation. An attempt to console a friend when you find yourselves lost in the woods; a moment of panic when your partner says “can I ask you something?”; a mantra repeated to oneself throughout the day “it’s only so if I make it so”; the lyrics sketch scenes that are at once hyper-specific and familiar.

Forgoing his typically dense compositional style, Broza allows his words to sit over sparse but sonically detailed production. Bursts of unexpected orchestration punctuate select images; a murmuring bass clarinet and warbling flutes set the wooded scene in ‘Kissing Trees.’ A distant harmonium soothes the mantra-chanting narrator in ‘Say It Again.’
